Care & maintenance

Stainless steel forgives almost everything. The gasket does not.

  • Wipe clean: Damp cloth on the exterior. Warm soapy water inside if coffee oils build up, but rinse and dry fully.
  • Dry the gasket: Remove the silicone ring after washing, let it air-dry separately. Trapped moisture breeds mildew.
  • Check the valve: Once a month, press the one-way vent to make sure it's not clogged with coffee dust. A toothpick clears it quickly.
  • Date dial: Rotate to match the roast date when you refill. It's a visual timer, not a guarantee, trust your nose first.

Frequently asked

How much coffee does it hold?

About 41 oz by volume (1.2 liters), which translates to roughly 250–300 grams of whole beans depending on bean density. A standard 12-oz bag fits with room to spare.

What does the one-way valve do?

Freshly roasted beans release CO₂ for days after roasting. The valve lets the gas escape without allowing oxygen in, which would stale the coffee faster. It's passive, no pumping required.

How does the date tracker work?

The lid has a rotating dial with month and day markings. Set it to the roast date when you fill the canister. It's a manual reminder, not an expiry alarm, coffee stays good for weeks, but peak flavor is the first two.

Is it actually airtight?

Yes. The clasp-lock lid compresses a silicone gasket around the rim. Properly closed, it blocks oxygen, moisture, and light. Not vacuum-sealed, but tight enough for home use.

Can I store ground coffee in it?

You can, but ground coffee stales much faster than whole beans, within days, not weeks. If you pre-grind, use it quickly. The canister slows oxidation, it doesn't stop time.
